Active Gallery – Fun Gallery Tour and Drama Workshop
Are your kids full of energy? Why not bring them along to the Town Hall to take part in our Roman Gladiator experience! This year’s Summer Programme has generously been funded by Bishop Auckland Town Council.
Join actress Shelley O’Brien who as PETRONIA, a woman from ancient Rome, invites you to join her for a fun drama session where you will learn so much about this wonderful period in history.
Come with your Roman name and dressed, if you wish, as a gladiator, a slave or a criminal, a Roman Emperor or Goddess or even a wild animal! And remember there were lady gladiators, slaves and criminals too!!!
Learn simple mime and movement skills to safely act out gladiator combats, their battles with wild beasts and the entertainment of the crowds. Will you buy yourself freedom with a win? Or is it “curtains” for you at the noonday spectacle??
Bring to life chariot races, elephant processions, and a Roman banquet. Will you be rich enough to buy meat at the street stall or is it wheat and pottage for you?
And end with some great dancing of the day to music of the time, not forgetting a sentence or two as a great orator and change maker!
You might even learn a few words of Latin too!
Our first session is on Thursday 29 July for ages 6+ from 10.30am to 12.00noon
Sessions are 10.30am to 12.00noon or 1.30pm to 3.00pm and must be booked in advance at the Town Hall, £1 per child
Children must be accompanied by an adult (masks for adults are advised) and we are keeping group numbers low to ensure a comfortable group working situation.
