Art Workshops: Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo, The Two Fridas, 1939, Museo de Arte Moderno,, Bridgeman Images

Who was Frida Kahlo? Everyone knows her face but who was the woman behind the bright colours, the big brows and the floral crowns?

To celebrate Exhibition on Screen’s award-winning film Frida Kahlo: the Making of an Icon at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, join artist Jayne Blacklock over two art workshops held before and after the screening.

In workshop one, held on Tuesday 12 May from 6.30pm to 9.00pm, we’ll look at Kahlo’s body of work and the meaning of some of the symbolism within it. Working in gouache, we’ll look at colour mixing skills. techniques and work towards a collaborative piece based on one of her artworks.

In workshop two, on Tuesday 26 May from 6.30pm to 9.00pm, held after the screening of Frida Kahlo: the Making of an Icon, we will look at producing our own portrait influenced by the film and work in session one.

All materials for both workshops will be provided.
